About the Event

A slap in the face today, dementia tomorrow: violence, trauma and brain integrity
Violence is not just a social problem. It is also a brain trauma.
Physical trauma, psychological stress, and chronic fear leave concrete traces in the brain and can affect cognitive health in the long run. Research shows how repeated injuries, persistent stress, and psychological violence can affect neural circuits, brain inflammation, and the risk of cognitive decline.
This meeting offers a scientific and accessible look at an urgent issue: protecting the integrity of the brain means prevention, throughout life.
“Violence leaves hidden wounds, and the brain remembers them.”– Women’s Brain Foundation

Held at LAC Lugano, this event will address the neurological and mental health consequences of gender-based violence, highlighting the long-term impact of physical and psychological trauma on brain health.

The initiative aims to raise awareness and foster informed dialogue on a critical societal issue, grounded in scientific evidence.

Through this partnership, the Women’s Brain Foundation and the Città di Lugano reaffirm their shared commitment to advancing gender-informed science, promoting mental health awareness, and supporting initiatives that generate lasting social impact.
