Mental Health as a Human Right: “Insieme per la salute mentale”

 In Articles, Events

Most people who struggle with their mental health have, at some point, been blamed for their condition. They have been called names. They have been told it is only a phase or that they have just “to try harder”. Moreover, they are discriminated against because of their condition. This is the power that stigma holds.

Stigma causes us to feel ashamed, out of control, or even weak. But most of all, it keeps many of us from seeking help. Help we need. This is why we need to break the stigma and to ensure that everyone has the same chance of getting well again. Mental Health should be seen as “a human right, accessible for everyone, everywhere.”

This is why we, at the Women’s Brain Project, advocate for mental health and work to break the stigma. We also support other companies and organizations who are launching different campaigns, all around mental health and well-being. Just like Lundbeck Italy.

On September 7, Lundbeck Italy S.p.A. launched a national campaign (all in Italian) “Insieme per la salute mentale” in order to raise awareness on mental health, and fight the stigma that still affects people living with mental disorders with the aim to establish “mental health as a human right for everyone, everywhere”.

The online campaign will continue until the end of October through different challenges on LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok helping to break the wall of stigma and prejudice with a green wave for mental health. A virtual event will take place on October 10th to mark World Mental Health Day. For more information, see the link at the bottom of this post.

The Lundbeck campaign received a wide endorsement – from main Italian associations, main scientific societies but also from actors coming from other fields “beyond” the health sector – as a result of a joint commitment that involves everyone for mental health.

If you’re in Italy, join the campaign and be a part of it. Break the stigma with us and let others know that sharing thoughts, emotions, and burdens is important. No one is or should be alone.

The Women’s Brain Project is a campaign partner in that it fully supports the objectives of Lundbeck Italy’s “Insieme per la salute mentale”. If you don’t speak Italian or aren’t based in Italy, but are interested in brain and mental health, we invite you to find out more about the WBP-launched Be Brain Powerful® Switzerland campaign, available in English, French, German, and soon also Italian.
