The Alzheimer’s Association is hosting the first-ever Alzheimer’s Association International Conference® Neuroscience Next (AAIC® NN) from November 9-10, 2020. The event is virtual and free of charge for all attendees. Dr. Maria Teresa Ferretti, Co-founder and Chief Scientific Officer of the Women’s Brain Project (WBP) will be speaking about sex and gender differences in Alzheimer’s Disease. Below is a guest blog providing an overview of what this conference is about.
The inaugural AAIC NN will provide an important platform for students and early career researchers (ECRs) to promote and publish their work. The event is timely for young researchers who have been acutely affected by and are particularly vulnerable to career delays resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic.
“AAIC Neuroscience Next is a unique conference that will showcase the innovative work of early career neuroscience researchers,” said Maria C. Carrillo, Ph.D., Alzheimer’s Association chief science officer. “AAIC NN will significantly expand our knowledge about how the brain works and will include researchers from all disciplines in neuroscience.”
The Association currently hosts the Alzheimer’s Association International Conference (AAIC), the largest and most influential meeting in Alzheimer’s and dementia science.
In collaboration with international leaders in the field, graduate students and postdoctoral fellows serve as members of the Scientific Program Committee to develop topical research sessions, career panels, and networking resources. In essence, the conference program has been curated by ECRs for ECRs.
“AAIC NN attendees will gain critical insights into how the scientific study of the brain and nervous system expands our understanding of the biological mechanisms underlying Alzheimer’s and related dementias, and ultimately leads to diagnostic and therapeutic strategies targeting neurological disorders more generally,” said conference co-chair Bruce T. Lamb, Ph.D., Executive Director, Paul and Carole Stark Neurosciences Research Institute at Indiana University School of Medicine.
Career development panels cover a broad range of topics for attendees at every career stage, including applying to grad school, securing research funding, and exploring Postdoctoral opportunities in and outside of academia. Each session is also co-chaired by a senior Faculty member and a Student or Fellow, who gain experience in moderating speaker sessions and audience discussions.
